Step-Parenting/Blended Family Group

Who it's for:

Parents who are planning to remarry or have been remarried for a while and are interested in learning how to create a positive experience for each member of this new family. It's tough being a parent. Being a step-parent is often like stepping through a minefield. A group is a great way to learn and share with others who have had similar experiences, to get support for what you're going through and to learn effective ways to deal with the stuff that comes up when you're raising a family. Topics covered will include: feeling like an outsider, helping children adjust to a "new normal" and deal with dual loyalties, division of parenting tasks, co-parenting and dealing with the "ex", creating new rituals and family traditions.

New Parents and Parents of Young Children

Who it's for:

Becoming a new parent can be stressful, anxiety provoking and isolating. It's a major life transition and takes some adjustment. Figuring out how to manage feeding, sleeping and setting limits can be difficult when there is so much information out there and your child has his/her own unique temperament and needs. Learning to "read" and understand the verbal and non-verbal signals your child is constantly giving, and finding ways to feel attached to your child can be infinitely rewarding for both parent and child and are the building blocks for how your child will form relationships for the rest of his/her life. Topics will include the importance of play, how to understand and nurture your child's inner life, and looking inward to gain a greater understanding of yourself as a parent. There can be no greater gift than a child whose parent "sees" and understands him/her for who he/she is.
